Let's see, where did I leave off?
Yesterday morning we found ourselves a Guarantor. We filled out all the paperwork, took a new picture of Ben, got breakfast, took Ben to school, went to the post office, and got everything lined up. If all went well, Kristine got the Guarantor to sign the stuff we need him to sign and mailed it all today. It's being couriered, so we can track it; we also have a tracking number at the passport office so we can call in to make sure that everything's in order. What a stupid mess.
As promised, photos. Ben in the limo (that's our new SUV at the curb), Ben and his diploma, Ben and his Eagerness award, Ben and his teacher Miss Knowles, Ben on the couch looking normal.
We stopped on the way home at The Pie Place in Grand Marais, where they change the menu every week. I had a 'Krabcake Po'Boy' and a slice of pecan pie, Laura had hot dogs (all beef) and a slice of chocolate cream pie. Her slice was actually a small (maybe four inches across and four inches tall) pie, which was a little weird. The food wasn't fantastic, and it was quite expensive, and I don't think we need to stop there again. We also stopped at the Tettegouche State Park for a bathroom break, and took a short walk to the end of a trail overlooking Lake Superior. Very nice view. (Not this exact view, but similar.) As we left Eau Claire we started hearing reports of dangerous weather on the roads ahead; we actually drove past the site of a tornado touchdown (it's in that article - "Shortly after 7 p.m., a twister touched down near Interstate 94 in nearby Monroe County. Officials at Monroe County Emergency Management reported a semitruck was picked up off the Interstate near Tomah, and the driver was taken to a local hospital.") and followed stormclouds all the way home. It was pretty freaky to drive between a semi trailer on its side and a house in three pieces - Laura said she saw a boat and a trailer in the front yard, and I saw that the front of the house had been TORN OFF and moved a few feet. We stopped a couple more times and asked about the weather, and learned that we were some twenty minutes behind the storms ("a line of stormclouds stretching halfway across the state"), so we took our time. Got home around 11:30, safe and dry.
So, this weekend. Laura is looking into whether or not she can get the day off tomorrow (Friday), but it doesn't look good. I will be able to leave early, though likely not early enough to get to Columbus by 7 PM EST (when the game is supposed to start). My fault, really - I assumed the game was on Saturday because the last one I played at Origins was. Here's the info itself, and here. I'm just an idiot - sorry, C.
If we *aren't* going, we'll need to know soon so I can cancel the hotel reservations. And let Tamara know that we won't be joining her for lunch on Sunday, and let Robyn know that ... oh, wait. I never told Robyn I was coming down this weekend. Well, that part was easy.
Rats, I'm taking too long to write this. Back to work.
Oh, speaking of Kenya, isn't it time for someone to create a flash of Norway? "Where you see vikings, only in Norway! Got vikings and huscarls only in Norway! Forget Kenya!"
